In a shameless plug, I’ve linked this post to the football (soccer) fanzine “The Global Game,” the brainchild of my uncle and journalist John Turnbull. In addition to copious writings on the game, you’ll also find his blog, Left Wing.

John is co-editing an anthology of world soccer writing, to be published in spring 2008 by University of Nebraska Press. Its working title is “A Ball Game of Earth and Sky: World Literature on Soccer and Human Experience.” It will include, among others, “an original essay on the importance of football in the cosmology and daily lives of the Inuit.”

I can’t wait to read it, as my uncle, like his brother and father–both writers–are known for high caliber writing and an understated but devastating wit.
