The NBCC (national book critics circle) alerted its members that airing tonight on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report,” (11:30/10:30 Central), author Salman Rushdie (see photo at left, linked and borrowed from my alma mater newspaper The Daily Cal) will talk (or more likely spar) with Stephen Colbert. The subject won’t be censorship, the fatwa, his girlfriend and Top-Chef hostess Padma Lakshmi, but book reviews and why we need them. It’s a timely yet curious intersection of my and others’ recent push to “save book reviews” at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and elsewhere. If you haven’t yet, take a minute to click on the box somewhere on the right to learn more about the NBCC’s campaign to do just that–and then watch the show.
